Truer words were never spoken. I used to do Denise Austin VHS tape workouts quite often and I always passed off her little limericks as nothing more than that ... but in reality, everything that she has to say bears a lot of truth. Not to step on Jillian's toes here, but Denise was doing everything Jillian does now, but she did it years ago and in a much nicer tone than Jillian.
Which do I like better? Well, I guess that all depends on the day. There are some days when the nice, relaxing voice of Denise Austin helps you get through the moves, and there are other days when you are feeling great and just need someone to beat you up - ala Jillian. It's funny, Bob is a lot like Denise Austin in that he has a calming voice about him. Jillian is the polar opposite.
I did another round of yoga today with Suzanne Deason in order to loosen up some parts of my lower body that have been tight since the "snowy encounter" and I felt great after the session. I then proceeded to pick up Denise Austin for some much needed change, and I did her "Shrink Your Female Fat Zones" ... its really quite amazing how much 3DS overlaps with her workouts. No Bob today, Denise took care of it for me.
I'm seriously trying to change things up so that I don't get bored, and today was definitely a welcome change. Not only did Suzanne and Denise get my mind off of Jillian for a while, but they made it possible to dive into Level 3 without giving it a seconds thought just so that I could get it over with. Did my performance improve - of course not - but my mental attitude improved for the day, and given the length of this journey, that is the most critical component for me, personally.
Interesting you mentioned that phrase about your spine being your lifeline. Today, I am feeling a little pinch in one of my disks in my spine and wondering how I could have protected my spine a little better. Some spinal twists are in order for the next few days.
ReplyDeleteAgreed about the need for change. I think we must have the JM 30 day memorized by now. Yoga Journal has some good free yoga sequences if you're interested in trying something in that department.
I think I'm going to stick with Suzanne Deason for the near future - she makes it easy and you don't have to watch the DVD to make it through because she calls out the movements step by step so you can really relax while you are going through it.
