P90X 2011

Last year, Josh and I made a brief attempt at P90X. The attempt lasted a week, after which we quit, and I went on to do Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred instead. One thing we did do as part of starting P90X, however, was write down our starting weights and body fat percentages. I am proud to say that since last year, we've really improved! I lost just shy of 10 lbs and 1.2% body fat. Josh lost almost 12 lbs and 1.5% body fat. Today we started P90X again, the Lean version, with the diets. The Lean version is like the Classic version (just a re-arrangement of the DVDs), but geared more towards fat loss over building muscle. Today we did the Core Synergistics and if memory serves me right, it was a lot easier than when we did it last year. Mind you, since last year, we have run a half marathon, and lost some weight so that certainly helps.

Here we go again!

16 Days to Go - P90X Shoulders and Arms

For my workout today, I did the P90X Shoulders and Arms, along with P90X Ab Ripper X. The Shoulders and Arms workout consisted of about an hour of various arm exercises using weights for some moves, and your body weight for others. I didn't realize my triceps were so weak until I tried the tri-side push-ups, where you lie on your side and lift yourself using your tricep strength. What a challenge. Overall, I enjoyed the workout because I don't workout my arms too much usually.

Ab Ripper X was another story. Talk about tough. This made the 30 Day Shred feel like a rest day. Ab Ripper X gives you no breaks, and you go right into tough moves, one after the other. It's my goal to finish this 15-minute ab workout without stopping.

As for yesterday's workout, it felt tough then, but I wasn't hurting so bad today. I don't think today's arm/shoulder work will be so kind. Shouldn't matter though because tomorrow is my long run day. Wish me luck!

17 Days To Go - Are We Back on Track? Sorta, Kinda

I'm with Traci on this one: we are paying for our slacking BIG TIME. I had intentions today of running 4 miles. Uh, no. Slater and I made it 2 miles through the semi-frozen mud dodging along zig-zaggy craggy sidewalks before the wind blowing though my hoodie made me feel like I was wearing nothing at all. And those 2 miles were no cakewalk - for the first 30 seconds before hitting my stride, my lungs were burning up. This is BADDD.

Not wanting to feel totally defeated, I came home and decided to kick my butt by doing the P90X Core Synergistics video consisting of a brief warm-up, a 45 min core workout, and a cool down. Like Traci said, I was feeling like day 1 of Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred all over again. I was suddenly aware of every ounce of jiggle. I made it though the workout with a few modifications, but I just know I'm going to be aching tomorrow.

..... feeling like the world's worst marathon trainer.........

But, the good news is the more we pay now, the less we pay on the day of the run. You certainly don't want to be "gargling your heart" as Jillian likes to say during mile 3 of your race.
